There’s nothing quite like heading out to a favourite fishing spot with rods in hand, especially when conditions are looking perfect. This time, we were joined by our good friend Angus, ready to take advantage of the low light, calm water, and big tides, ideal for bass fishing. We were confident the fish would be feeding; we just had to find the right spot.
On the way to our main mark, we made a quick stop at a smaller inshore spot. We started with a mix of soft plastics and topwater lures, but the fish weren’t interested. Even though we knew they were around, they just weren’t biting. That’s when Angus decided to switch things up and try the Renaissance Eel. After a few slow retrieves, he hooked into a solid bass. It put up a great fight, but the realistic look and movement of the Real D-eel colour variation clearly did the trick. A smart choice, and a blank avoided.

With the first fish landed, we moved on to our intended spot. Since the Renaissance Eel had already proven itself, we both switched to the Bounty. From experience, we’ve found that white lures work well in this area, making it our best bet. Sticking with a slow retrieve, it wasn’t long before we were in. A bass smashed the lure, a good sign that they were starting to switch on.

As the evening wore on and the light faded, the conditions got even better. With about an hour to go before low tide—our favourite time to fish—the bass were fully switched on. Cast after cast, we kept hooking up, with the Renaissance Eel doing most of the heavy lifting. The action was steady, and it was one of those sessions where everything seemed to fall into place.
Once the tide hit slack water and the sky was fully dark, we decided to call it a night and head back. It had been a solid session, with plenty of fish landed and a clear winner in the lure department. As we packed up, we chatted about the highlights of the evening and started planning the next trip. There’s something special about a good evening of bass fishing—when the conditions align, the fish are feeding, and everything just works. Until next time, we’ll be watching the tides, fine-tuning our setups, and waiting for another great session on the water.
